Founder, R.Ph., FIACP, IFMCP

Welcome to Pioneer Health Center! As the founder of this practice, I am a passionate research and compounding pharmacist and functional medicine practitioner. A graduate of the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in Boston, I have been practicing pharmacy for over 37 years.

I am a relentless learner, and during this time, I have received advanced training in the art of pharmacy compounding at Professional Compounding Centers of America (PCCA) as well as earned the prestigious title of IFM Certified Practitioner from the Institute for Functional Medicine. Then in 2005, I earned my certification as a First Line Therapy Practitioner. In humble honor of my extensive work in this space, I was awarded full fellowship at the International Academy of Compounding Pharmacists.

My Path to Compounding Pharmacy

For the first 15 years of my career, I practiced conventional retail pharmacy. I started off working at my father’s pharmacy Vernon Drug, and ultimately went on to purchase my own independent pharmacy, Market Square Pharmacy in Newington, CT. In 1996, however, I was introduced to compounding and this was the biggest turning point in my career.

A few years later in 2003, after much research on the subject, I decided to open one of the nation’s very first compounding pharmacies, Pioneer Health Center. Just a few short years later in 2008, Pioneer Health Center was awarded the Therapeutic Lifestyle Center of Excellence. It’s an honor to work in such an exciting, growing, and rewarding field surrounded by incredible patients and partner physicians.

More recently, I was awarded a faculty appointment as Clinical Lecturer of Family Medicine from The University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Since then, I have lectured on and published several articles for both patients and practitioners in the areas of bio-identical hormone replacement, pain management, lifestyle and nutritional therapy, functional medicine and most recently the evidence-based benefits of Low Dose Naltrexone.

When I’m not in the lab or working with my patients and partnering physicians, I’m studying another interest of mine: personal development, including ethics, human behavior, human performance and human potential.

I live with my wife, Caren, and our five children in Ellington, CT, who can often be found visiting Pioneer Health Center, so come say hi to us all the next time you stop by!
